At the beautiful and demanding WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, the 2025 Monterey SportsCar Championship on May 11 delivered intense, high-speed competition in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. The No. 31 Cadillac Whelen V-Series.R from Action Express Racing – driven by Frederik Vesti, Jack Aitken and Earl Bamber – continued to demonstrate pace and resilience in a deep Grand Touring Prototype (GTP) field stacked with world-class machinery.

In qualifying, the No. 31 Cadillac posted a competitive time in the GTP class, lining up ninth on the grid in a tightly bunched field where mere tenths separated the top contenders – evidence of how closely matched the prototypes were over a single lap.

During the 2-hour and 40-minute race, strategy, tire management and traffic navigation were at a premium as the action unfolded over the picturesque 11-turn Laguna Seca circuit. The No. 31 Cadillac ran consistently inside the leading pack of GTP challengers, fending off continual pressure from rivals and matching the pace of the quickest cars throughout the event.

Ultimately, the race was captured by the Porsche Penske Motorsport 963 duo of Mathieu Jaminet and Matt Campbell – continuing an impressive run of performance from the factory Porsche effort — with the No. 31 Cadillac finishing a strong sixth overall and just one lap behind the lead group.

While the result didn’t put the Whelen Cadillac atop the podium this weekend, there were plenty of positives for Action Express Racing. The car showed excellent balance through Laguna Seca’s legendary corners – particularly the Corkscrew – and the team’s race execution was clean and disciplined from start to finish. Those strong runs in tough conditions continue to build confidence in the program’s competitive trajectory as the season progresses.

With a mix of speed and tactical nous on show at Laguna Seca, the No. 31 team walked away with valuable data and momentum — foundations it would soon convert into race victories later in the 2025 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season.
