Chevrolet Detroit Sports Car Classic 2025

At the tight, technical street circuit through downtown Detroit, the 2025 Chevrolet Detroit Sports Car Classic – the fifth round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship – provided all the intensity of city-center sprint prototype racing on May 31, 2025. The No. 31 Cadillac Whelen V-Series.R from Action Express Racing brought pace, perseverance and consistent execution against a fiercely competitive GTP field.
From qualifying through the 100-minute race, the No. 31 crew of Jack Aitken and Earl Bamber demonstrated strong speed and rhythm on the challenging street layout. In a grid dominated by ultra-close margins – and with manufacturers like Acura, Porsche and BMW all in contention – the Action Express entry was the best of the Cadillac GTP runners throughout the weekend.
As the race unfolded, traffic management, tire care and precision in the Detroit urban arena were constantly at a premium. The No. 31 Cadillac maintained a solid race pace while navigating the full course cautions and the subway of prototype battles that defined the race’s middle stint. Although a second pit stop during the race dropped the team slightly off the lead lap, both drivers pushed consistently to regain rhythm and deliver clean, competitive laps.
When the checkered flag fell after 84 laps, the No. 31 Action Express Cadillac finished inside the top ten of the GTP class, showcasing resilience in difficult conditions and making gains against a field stacked with speed and depth.
While outright victory eluded the team — the win ultimately went to the Acura Meyer Shank Racing entry in a dramatic late-race battle — the Detroit weekend offered plenty of positives for Action Express Racing: solid race pace through the technical street layout, strong traffic management and a forward-looking performance that builds confidence as the season progresses.
The Detroit result further underlined the No. 31 Cadillac program’s consistent presence near the front of the IMSA field and its readiness to capitalize on opportunities as the championship heads into its next rounds.
