BIOGRAPHY
One of racing’s most famous families, the Donohue family has long been associated with winning and New Jersey native David Donohue continues the tradition. The son of 1969 Rolex 24 At Daytona winner, 1972 Indianapolis 500 winner and inaugural IROC champion Mark Donohue, David has done his part carrying on the family legacy, becoming one of the names synonymous with the Rolex Series. A longtime Brumos driver, Donohue takes the natural transition to Action Express Racing fulltime in 2011. Competing in the DP class since 2003, Donohue has spent much of his Grand-Am career with Brumos Racing winning three races and earning four poles in the inaugural season for the class. He finished second in the series standings that year, his best season in DP competition. After failing to finish on the podium in 2004 through 2006, Donohue bounced back with Brumos in 2007 with a podium finish at Infineon, one of 7 top fives on the year. In 2008, Donohue and teammate Darren Law finished fourth in the series standings with 7 top fives and 5 podiums. In 2009, he earned his signature career win claiming the 2009 Rolex 24 title with Brumos Racing almost 40 years after his father. His heart stopping win with the Brumos #58 team became what Donohue calls his most memorable career victory in what was the closest finish in the history of the 24 Hours of Daytona. He returned to the podium again in 2010 finishing second at Homestead and ending the season eighth in the series standings with 6 top five finishes. Donohue joined Action Express Racing full-time in 2011 in the team’s No. 5 entry, alongside longtime teammate Darren Law. The two drivers made an immediate impact and represented Action Express Racing very well. The 2012 Action Express Racing #5 Corvette Daytona Prototype will feature David Donohue, Darren Law and Christian Fitipaldi. Donohue will be a key player in the success of this team for the whole season but especially at the 50th Anniversary of the Rolex 24 hour event. |
