StubHub Monterey SportsCar Championship 2026

May 1 - May 3

At the StubHub Monterey SportsCar Championship, the No. 31 Cadillac Whelen V-Series.R delivered one of its strongest performances of the season – only ceding the lead midway through the final lap in a dramatic finish at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.

From the outset of the weekend, the No. 31 Cadillac showed genuine front-running pace. In qualifying, Jack Aitken secured a front-row start, completing a Cadillac lockout and underlining the strength of the package heading into the race.

As the 2-hour, 40-minute contest unfolded, the No. 31 crew of Aitken and Earl Bamber executed a controlled and competitive race. The car ran consistently at the front of the GTP field, managing tire wear and traffic through Laguna Seca’s technical layout while maintaining the pace needed to challenge for overall honours.

Through pit cycles and strategy phases, Action Express Racing positioned the No. 31 Cadillac firmly in contention. By the closing stages, the car had assumed control of the race and was leading into the final laps – a reflection of both strong execution and outright speed across the stint.

In a dramatic conclusion, however, the race was decided on the final lap. A late charge from the No. 5 Porsche of JDC-Miller MotorSports resulted in a last-lap pass for the lead, narrowly denying the No. 31 Cadillac Whelen victory.

Despite the result, the No. 31 crossed the line second overall, securing a standout podium finish and one of the team’s most complete performances of the 2026 campaign.

The Monterey weekend reinforced several key positives for Action Express Racing: front-row qualifying pace, the ability to control a race from the front, and execution strong enough to contend for victory against both factory and customer competition. On a circuit where track position is critical and opportunities are limited, the No. 31 program maximised its performance and demonstrated clear race-winning capability.

While victory ultimately slipped away in the final moments, the performance at Laguna Seca sent a clear message – the No. 31 Cadillac Whelen is firmly in the fight for wins throughout the 2026 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season.
