Daytona Beach, Fla. (26 January 2018) The 2018 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship will launch with the Rolex 24 At Daytona this weekend and Whelen Engineering is pleased to announce a new marketing partnership agreement with Lucas Oil Products.
Whelen Engineering Racing, who won the 2016 IMSA WeatherTech Team and Driver Championships, will look to add a new chapter of success in the team history with the new full-season driver pairing of Felipe Nasr and Eric Curran. The duo will be joined in the Rolex 24 by Mike Conway and Sunoco Whelen Challenge winner Stuart Middleton as the four racers team up in the No. 31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac DPi-V.R entry.
The new partnership with Lucas Oil grew from an existing relationship as the team had already utilized Lucas Oil for several seasons, including the run to the IMSA championship in 2016. The program will see Lucas Oil signage on the No. 31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac DPi-V.R entry.
“We are delighted to have Lucas Oil join us on the Whelen Engineering Cadillac DPi-V.R and are looking forward to our expanded relationship,” said Action Express Racing team principal Bob Johnson. “We’ve been using their product in our car with tremendous success, so it is great to build on that partnership for 2018. Hopefully we can get a big result in the 24 this weekend to kick things off!”
Lucas Oil Director of Motorsports Tom Bogner was happy to make the partnership official. “We have been supplying oil to the Whelen Engineering team for several years now and I am very proud to expand and continue our relationship this year,” said Bogner. He continued, “The IMSA series is a great platform to test and develop our products. I can’t think of a better way to promote our racing oils than beating on them for 24 hours at Daytona.”
Action Express Racing has marketing partnerships with Whelen Engineering, Mustang Sampling, Cadillac, Mothers, Bell, Motul, Continental Tire, and Mechanix Wear.
The Rolex 24 (January 27-28)At Daytona will open with a live FOX broadcast at 2:00 PM ET on Saturday.
