DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (7 February 2019) — Success breeds success, and 2018 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Champions Whelen Engineering Racing are pleased to announce the expansion of the team marketing partnership with Lucas Oil Products.
The No. 31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac DPi-V.R which claimed the 2018 IMSA championship with Felipe Nasr and Eric Curran, and also claimed the 2018 Michelin Endurance Cup title, will carry increased branding for Lucas Oil in 2019. The duo will be joined by Pipo Derani on the driver roster as the team targets a successful defense of its 2018 titles, which opened with a strong run to second in the Rolex 24 At Daytona last month.
“We are pleased to have Lucas Oil grow their program with us, they are real racers just like we are and they are very focused on performance,” said team manager, Gary Nelson. “The team has experienced some good success with Lucas on board, and we have been working hard to be able to win more trophies with them this season.”
Lucas Oil Director of Motorsports Tom Bogner is equally excited to continue the partnership between Lucas Oil and the No. 31 Whelen Engineering Racing Cadillac team.
“The Whelen Engineering team is a championship winning organization and we are proud to again be a part of their program,” said Bogner. “We greatly value our working relationship with the team as well as the ECR engine shop and their success on the track provides a fantastic platform for proving both the endurance and performance level of our Lucas Oil Products.”
The No. 31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac DPi-V.R will be back in IMSA action on March 16 for the 67th running of the Sebring 12 Hours.
