10 May 2019- During the Acura SportsCar Grand Prix at Mid-Ohio last weekend, Bobby Banks suffered an injury during a pit stop for the No. 5 Mustang Sampling Racing Cadillac DPi V.R.
Banks, who is the front-end mechanic and front tire changer on the No. 5 entry, injured his ankle and has been receiving medical care to address the injury.
The team is hopeful that Banks will be able to return to his duties in the shop in the next two weeks. Banks is scheduled for additional consultations with a specialist as he begins his recovery process with the goal of returning to over the wall duty in the future.
“It is always difficult when a team member has an injury-you hate to see that happen,” said Action Express Team Manager Gary Nelson. “But the team rallied around Bobby from the moment he got hurt, and I’m proud of how others have stepped up to help take on his responsibilities as he heals. Hopefully he will be back up to speed soon!”
The Mustang Sampling Racing team will be back in race action in the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear on the streets of Belle Isle in Detroit May 31-June 1.
