BIOGRAPHY

Action Express full time driver Joao Barbosa has been competing in the GRAND-AM series since 2001. The Portuguese native helped guide Action Express Racing to a 2010 victory at the Rolex 24. Barbosa has been touted by legends like Hurley Haywood as the fastest man in the series today.

Barbosa is no stranger to Championships. He began racing as a child and competed In Portuguese Karting winning championships in his home land and all over Europe. Joao has competed in over 15 countries and has excelled in many disciplines of racing.

In 2008 Joao began driving full time for Brumos Racing in the #59 Porsche helping them achieve 11 top 10 finishes and a third place over-all in the Championship standings. Joao’s contributions helped the team secure the SunTrust ‘Improve your position Award’. 2009 saw Barbosa on the podium at the Rolex 24 to start the season strong and closed out 2009 with a win at Homestead.

Joao raced hard in 2011 alongside team mates Terry Borcheller and JC France and finished the season with 2 podiums and 1 win at Virginia International Raceway (VIR)
Joao will be returning to the #9 Action Express Team in 2012 and will be competing in the all new Chevrolet Corvette Daytona Prototype. Joao has been instrumental in the development of the new Corvette DP and will be joining longtime team mates Terry Borcheller , JC France and Max Papis as they try to capture a win at the 50th anniversary of the Rolex 24 Hour event at the world famous Daytona International Speedway.
